Chef vs Coach - Franklin on the 50 Tastes of Gray Podcast with Matthew Gray

Image
My experience on YouTube has been a cool adventure for the most part. In the midst of spam comments, thumbnails and titles that are intended to coerce, and the noise you sift through to find what you want, miracles can happen. One of those miracles took the form of meeting Matthew Gray of the 50 Tastes of Gray Podcast.  A few years ago, I made a ten-minute video with no advance planning or intention that has become the most popular video on my page. It's about making a graphic overlay for Zoom interviews. That accidental success was the first point of contact.  In the past couple of years, Matthew has reached out to touch base and see how I've been doing. Most YouTube-inspired exchanges are not this thoughtful, but in one of his latest check-ins, he asked if I'd join him on his podcast. I'd made an assumption that the podcast was mostly about food, but that was before I'd properly listened to a few episodes. Matthew just loves good conversations, and he's a ma...

Franklin on the Mindful Evolution Podcast with Leah Drew

Image
The episode can be heard below. You can subscribe to the podcast wherever you listen to the shows you love. Here are some important links related to the program: The Mindful Evolution Podcast site.  Leah's YouTube Channel. Leah's website. Leah on Instagram . One of the highlights of attending last Summer's Podcast Movement conference in Denver was the random meeting in a discussion on blogging with a new podcaster named Leah Drew. I don't remember the specific content of our conversation, but I remember the instant feeling of connection with a kindred spirit. In the few times we've spoken since the conference, that sense has only been reinforced. Leah was preparing to launch her podcast called The Mindful Evolution Podcast to share her own insights and those of her guests relating to soulful, holistic healing. In passing, we talked about how my own path in the past few years had been about coming face to face with my own shadow self, that side of me that I have want...

A Discussion of Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert with Iggy Perillo on the Books Applied Podcast

Image
The idea for the Books Applied Podcast is one of the most fun and creative I've run across. Iggy Perillo of WSL Leadership is the creator and host. The premise of Books Applied is that Iggy invites people to read a book related to their professional expertise and then discuss it on the podcast. So much fun! The book I was invited to discuss was Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear, by Elizabeth Gilbert , the celebrated author of Eat, Pray, Love.  I had already downloaded the book on my Kindle probably two years earlier, but Iggy's invitation was the impetus to crack the cover and read it. I won't give away the whole conversation, but I'll spill the beans on a couple of things to listen for. Iggy and I both had lukewarm responses to Eat, Pray, Love. We each had our own reasons, but it didn't make our recommended reading lists. In Big Magic, I found much to agree with and felt very affirmed by many things she wrote. I did feel like there was a push to make the cre...

Creating a Business, and Attraction in Marketing - Two Conversations with Michelle Nedelec

Image
Your Own Best Company podcast listeners heard me interview Michelle Nedelec back in May about the rebellious nature of entrepreneurship. Click here if you missed it! Since that episode, I've had more opportunities to talk with Michelle on two of her podcasts, The Business Ownership Podcast and The Little Blue Pill for Business Podcast. Michelle is a brilliant entrepreneur, a prolific podcaster(hosting and producing five shows at last count), a top-notch interviewer, and wickedly funny for the win.  I'll feature my interviews below, but in case you want to get in touch with her, Michelle can be found at https://michellenedelec.com , and on LinkedIn at  https://www.linkedin.com/in/michellenedelec/ . Our first conversation was for The Business Ownership Podcast on the topic of Creating a Creative Business We had a lot of fun talking about how creative people with little or no business experience can learn the ropes quickly and develop the business that allows them to cont...

Franklin on Uncle Marv's IT Business Podcast!

Image
Thanks to Marvin Bee for the invitation to share my story of turning a question and answer session with ChatGPT into a published Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) book on Uncle Marv's I.T. Business Podcast! This was a fun conversation, and I'll be looking forward to welcoming Marvin to Your Own Best Company sometime soon.  We talked about concerns and opportunities that tools like ChatGPT and other technology are presenting as they become more widely used. I recall some of my music career experiences in which tech advances changed everything about the music business in a relatively short period of time. And we talked about my initial surprise at the thorough way my questions were responded to.  You can hear the whole episode here:  Marvin has some other great episodes to check out here, especially if you are interested in more tech-centered conversations. And he's got an Amazon link to the book: https://itbusinesspodcast.simplecast.com/episodes/495-a-conversation-with-c...

Franklin on the LoCo Experience Podcast with Curt Bear!

Image
Some of you long-time friends will remember Curt Bear's visit with me on The Reset Podcast several years ago. Curt is a colleague at Larimer SBDC and is the Founder of an amazing business resource called the LoCo Think Tank. He's also become a prolific podcaster, featuring some of Northern Colorado's movers, shakers, and community linchpins. It's an honor to be included in the lineup for The LoCo Experience show. One of the things I like about Curt's podcast is that it's a long format. He doesn't put a time limit on the conversation and he likes to get stories that no other podcasts capture. This is one of the most in-depth interviews I've ever had and I enjoyed the conversation that Curt teased out with his discussion style. You can listen to the interview below, and find out more about Curt, LoCo Think Tank, and the podcast here: https://locothinktank.com/the-loco-experience-podcast/

Franklin on the Access to Anyone Podcast with Michael Roderick

Image
One of my favorite parts of being a podcast guest is experiencing how different hosts draw out different aspects of my story. I've been a fan of Michael Roderick's Access to Anyone podcast for over a year and was delighted to have him as a guest on Your Own Best Company. When Michael offered the chance for me to be his guest, I didn't hesitate. Michael is a generous host and thoughtful interviewer who gave me great questions to reflect on and plenty of room to respond. Thanks for taking some time to listen to our conversation. If you enjoy the show, subscribe to it on your favorite podcast host, and be sure to leave a review. That helps more people find the show. https://accesstoanyonepodcast.com/creating-experiences-with-franklin-taggart/ You can also listen right here:

2022 Recap

Image
I started 2022 with a stark realization about my content consumption habits and committed to reverse the ratio between content consumption and content production. My practical commitment to make this reversal was to release a new episode every day of the year on YouTube, my podcast, and my blog. I was able to keep this commitment, and I've seen some incredible results.  When Spotify released its Wrapped reports in November, I'd already released 300 episodes, created 4,200 minutes of content, and seen my streaming numbers increase by 999%. December numbers will show that I reached over 365 video/audio/blog releases, and my number of minutes will be over 5000. YouTube reports that I've generated 19,200 views on my channel, and my watch hours have increased to 582. These numbers are enough to encourage me to continue releasing new video, audio, and blog content with a high frequency, although I will be allowing myself a couple of days off each week from now on. I'm also ex...

2022 Favorite Podcasts

Image
I haven't listened to as many podcasts this year as last, but I wanted to mention those that I still automatically download. I keep my subscription list trimmed to about fifty shows, and right now it's at 49. Of those, there are less than ten that I listen to every episode. I'm sharing my top ten for 2022 according to the Podcast Addict app. 1. The Entrepreneur's Ecosystem Podcast - I made a recommendation video about this one  back in October. Dawn Petrin and Chanti Zak host in-depth interviews with coaches, copywriters, marketers, and other entrepreneurs. The enthusiasm and energy are high, and the guests are top-notch. 2. Copywriters Podcast - This has been one of my top picks for a few years. Copywriting coach David Garfinkel curates marketing communication advice from some of the best writers in the history of modern advertising. While I don't consider myself a great copywriter, I continue to learn things from this show that raise my game. 3. Akimbo: A Podca...
